Which is the more cost-effective way to ease traffic congestion?
1. Add new lanes to highways
2. Take cars off the road
People hate traffic, right? So why do they drive to work when they can stay home and get more done? An estimated 60 million commuters in the U.S. could do their jobs at home, staying off the roads during the week.
Part of the problem is that we just assume that we need to drive to work. Managers prefer to see their employees in person and many employees hesitate to ask to work from home, concerned that they will miss out on opportunities or be seen as less committed.
It’s time to challenge our assumptions, overcome our concerns and set more aggressive goals for getting cars off the roads during the week.
